Two popular shows of Tahatto Theatre Group – remember remember And Love in the Cholera of Time Recently, plays have been staged in the city. Playwright and director of Tahatto Theatre Group, Prashanth Kumar Nair, says they were revived because of the positive response they received.
Viewers can catch both dramas this weekend as well. remember remember It is a compilation of five fairy tales that are humorous but also highlight complex human emotions. “The one consistent feedback we got from the audience was that they found the play surprisingly emotional,” says Prashant.
The second play, Love in the Cholera of TimeIt bends the linearity of time and contains Shakespearean fantasies of love. It has been staged in several cities across India, including Hyderabad, Delhi and Chennai. The plot revolves around lovers existing in different time periods, who are determined to make their relationship work.
According to Prashant, “It is comforting to know that Love in the Cholera of Time resonates with others, and they too feel the sense of being trapped in time.” The play is very imaginative, connecting the past, present and future, and while it usually takes the audience a while to understand what is happening, it keeps them captivated. The opportunity to briefly rip apart the fabric of time and mix up different periods serves as a relief for anyone watching the play.

Prashant says what’s special about these two plays is that “they provide a way to communicate with the audience without being too obvious.” “In an age when we have so many different experiences like shopping and consuming media, theatre gives us a collective experience.”
Tahatto was started by a couple of people who met at a workshop without any prior theatre experience. Prashant says that when he wrote his first play, a strange thing called warHe was thrilled that the actors would read his dialogues and that his writings would come alive on stage.
Two Shows remember remember It took place at Ranga Shankara on September 15. The play was written in 2015 and has been performed many times since then, so the team knows which parts will appeal to the audience. “The idea is still fresh and the actors don’t feel like they have done it a thousand times,” says Prashant.

Prashanth, who grew up as a shy kid and has finally stepped on the stage, says he doesn’t believe in holding auditions. “I would prefer to meet the artistes, interact with them and then, if we are on the same page, take things forward.”
Prashant’s plays stem from deeply personal experiences and he believes the audience connects with them too. He also believes they are a pillar of support for the actor. “The audience doesn’t come to see you fail. They come because they want to see you succeed on stage.”
Tahatto Theatre also organises fortnightly reading sessions in Indiranagar, where they welcome anyone interested in plays – amateurs and experts – to participate in “plays with the audience” in the afternoon. Tea“We have food, snacks, and discussions about what we find interesting in the play we are reading,” says Prashant.
