Al Pacino opens up about 'embarrassing' penis injury that still haunts him: 'Can barely walk'

Al Pacino is no stranger to dramatic moments, but the most painful scene of his life played out long before his Hollywood fame — and it happened in the most ’embarrassing’ way as he described it. In his new memoir Sonny Boy, the legendary actor has revealed a childhood mistake that literally landed him in a sticky situation and it was something that still ‘haunts’ him.

Al Pacino reveals his ‘childhood’ trauma

In his new book, the Oscar-winning star describes an incident that happened when he was just 10 years old. One rainy day, he was walking along a thin iron fence, immersed in his “dance world”, when he suddenly slipped, and suffered a painful injury due to the iron bar. “I was walking on a thin, iron fence, dancing on the rope. It was raining all morning, and sure enough, I slipped and fell, and the iron bar hit me right between my legs,” he recalls. “One of the most embarrassing experiences of my life,” he labeled it.

The Godfather star, fortunately, survived the incident without permanent physical damage. However, the psychological trauma of the incident is “haunting him”. He also described himself as “a cat with more than nine lives”.

Pacino describes his ‘ability’ to cheat death

Pacino clearly remembers suffering from intense pain and being unable to walk home. Fortunately, an old man saw his distress and took him to his aunt’s house, where a doctor was called.

He writes, “I was lying in bed with my pants around my ankles while the three most important women in my life—my mother, aunt, and grandmother—were inspecting my injury.” “I remember, as they were trying to assess the damage, they were whispering to each other, thinking, ‘God, please take me right now.’ He admits that even today that memory makes him feel uncomfortable.

Pacino describes himself as being constantly on the lookout for mischief, to the point where he can barely keep track. In the first chapter of Sonny Boy, he calls this incident “one of the most embarrassing experiences” of his life, while also discussing his habit of “cheating death on a regular basis”.
