
Tom Holland shares why he quit drinking in 2022 after an eye-opening experience during Dry January. In the episode of October 17 Rich Roll Podcast“I can’t explain how much I struggled in that first month without alcohol — and it really scared me,” the 28-year-old Spider-Man actor discussed.
“I decided as a punishment to myself that I would do February as well as January.”
“It was not easy. If anything, it’s been a little difficult. So I started getting nervous thinking, ‘Hey! I have a little wine thing.”

The Spider-Man star revealed that a “harrowing conversation” with his doctor about his liver led him to realize he may be facing a major problem. Holland thought, “Wow, maybe I have a problem here.”
“I got through March and started feeling a little better, but was still really struggling,” he said. “If I can make it to June 1, which is my birthday, and go six months without alcohol, I will have proven to myself that I don’t have a problem. I’m still young and enjoying a drink.”

But as his birthday approached, Holland began to see positive changes in his life. “I really started to feel the benefits of sober living. I started sleeping better. I was handling stressful situations better. my relationship [with Zendaya] It was better. My relations with my family were better. My relationship with my work was better.”
The Uncharted actor decided to spend a full year without alcohol and by the time he crossed the milestone, he was sure about his decision. “By the time I hit that annual mark, I was done. I was like, ‘I’ll never drink again because this is the best version of me.'”
“It was to celebrate me, and to express my sympathy,” he said. As an actor, Holland found himself surrounded by opportunities to drink alcohol. “You always have a reason to drink. Or, I felt like I always had a reason to drink.”

While Holland clarified that he was “never that badly drunk,” he admitted that once he started he didn’t have the ability to stop. He said, “I wasn’t the kind of person who could go to the pub for a penny.” “I wanted to close the door behind me.” His relationship with alcohol deteriorated when he realized, “I’ve polished off a mini-bar too many times.”
