Fleischmann said the singer appeared “very upset, agitated and a little wild, pacing and thrashing around.” The tourist further commented that the woman clearly looked “agitated and a little uncomfortable” with the situation. He added, “It was just my son, me, Liam Payne, the ladies and the staff.” The manager was politely intervening and trying to calm him down. There was a palpable sense of anxiety in the area.”

The same evening, the singer fell to the ground, reportedly fracturing his skull and suffering around 25 injuries on his body, resulting in excessive internal and external bleeding. Payne died after falling from the third-floor balcony of his damaged hotel room.

Another witness, who met Payne in the lobby and was one of the last people to see him alive before he fell from the third floor, described their conversation of about half an hour. During this conversation, Payne reportedly said, “I used to be in a boy band – that’s why I’m so irritable.” The witness, identified as Rebecca, was at the hotel for a wedding and informed police that Payne was supposed to check out early in the morning, but was also present until late afternoon.

For context, the former One Direction star had checked in with his girlfriend, who left Payne to stay at the hotel, two days earlier. “When I arrived, he was waiting near the elevator, and it was clear he wanted someone to recognize him; There was something desperate about it,” he said. He alleged that the celebrity seemed eager for attention as he introduced himself without saying, “Yes, I’m Liam,” according to the Post.

Rebecca, who was with a friend, noted that although they had already recognized him, they were not “bothered” by his presence. Then he said, “Okay, come on, you guys, sit in the elevator with me; I like hugs.”

Rebecca chose to wait for the next lift, while some other girls joined Payne, who reportedly commented, “Oh, you’re American, I live in West Palm Beach. I know Americans. You You people are crazy!’ After this he jokingly pretended to strangle a girl, which angered others.

About ten minutes later, Rebecca returned to the lobby and saw Payne again, looking upset after reading something on his laptop. Suddenly, he yelled, “This is bullshit, buddy!” and threw his computer on the ground, leaving both guests and employees in shock. Following the outburst, a member of Payne’s entourage came to Rebecca to apologize and explained, “I’m sorry, he gets so loud sometimes.”
