Why is Simon Cowell getting hate for Liam Payne’s death?
Liam Payne was first discovered on the reality show The X Factor, which was produced and judged by Cowell. It was on the show that One Direction were formed and even though they did not win the competition, Cowell recognized their potential and signed them to his record label. However, fans believe that Cowell failed to protect the boys from the onslaught of stardom at such a young age. Over the years, all of the band members have spoken about struggling with fame and dealing with various issues and mental health problems due to being thrust into the spotlight at such a young age.
Liam Payne’s death, which was probably caused by being under the influence of drugs and alcohol, is being attributed to this maladjustment and failure to deal with stardom. According to his autopsy, the singer jumped or fell from the third-floor balcony of his hotel room in Buenos Aires and was either completely or semi-conscious at the time.
Simon Cowell’s tribute and reaction
“It’s so hard to put into words right now,” Simon Cowell wrote on Instagram on Friday. I went out today, and I thought about how much time we spent together. I wanted to tell you what I would say to the thousands of people who always ask me. How is Liam? And I would tell them that you were kind, funny, sweet, thoughtful, talented, humble, focused. And how much you liked music. And how much love you really have for the fans.”
However, the creator had to turn off the comments for the post as it started being shared with a lot of abuse and hate. After a screengrab of the post was shared on Reddit, fans posted vitriolic comments against Cowell. One wrote, “He failed the boys, failing to protect them when they were young.” Another said, “The hypocrisy of his statement makes me angry. He benefited from his exploitation.” Many others argued that Cowell was ‘partially responsible’ for the band’s breakup and the band members’ fragile relationships and mental health.
