Actor and filmmaker Mel Gibson has revealed who he will support in the 2024 elections. In a candid exchange captured on video by TMZ at Los Angeles International Airport, the “Braveheart” star didn’t hold back from criticizing Kamala Harris while making it clear where her political allegiances lie.
When Gibson was asked about the upcoming presidential race, he pointed to his longtime association with conservative ideas, saying, “I don’t think anyone will be surprised by who I vote for. ”
Asked if Donald Trump was his preferred choice, Gibson confirmed, “I think that’s a pretty good guess.”
The conversation soon shifted toward Harris, where Gibson sharply criticized the Vice President, saying, “I know what would happen if we let him in. It’s not good.” He attacked her qualifications and intelligence, saying, “A poor track record, a terrible track record, no policies to speak of, and she’s got the IQ of a fence post.”
Mel Gibson has been a conservative supporter for years
Gibson’s support for Trump is not entirely unexpected. The “Hacksaw Ridge” director has long been associated with conservative political circles and was even seen hobnobbing with Trump at a UFC fight in Las Vegas last year.
While the backlash to Gibson’s comments about Harris is certain, his endorsement joins the growing list of celebrities who are publicly supporting Trump for a second term. Trump has received endorsements from a number of high-profile names, including actors Dennis Quaid, Jon Voight and Zachary Levi, music stars such as Kid Rock and Jason Aldean, and sports figures such as Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell.
Meanwhile, much of Hollywood remains firmly behind Kamala Harris, with many stars and industry insiders joining her campaign. Gibson’s outspoken criticism of Harris and support of Trump puts her at odds with most of her peers in the entertainment industry, but aligns with her history of politically charged commentary.
