Diddy was once Taylor Swift’s dream date

A blast from the past has resurfaced, reminding us of when Taylor Swift was starting her music career. A 2011 TikTok clip shows a young and eager Swift participating in a fun segment on Rachael Ray’s show. Given a selection of celebrity photos, they were asked to choose their dream prom date.

In the clip, the Cruel Summer singer is presented with photos of top music icons and asked to choose a few while answering the question, “Whose wardrobe would you like to borrow?” When asked who she would take to the prom, Swift gathered a “bunch” of stars, including Diddy, commenting that he has “always been so good to me.”

“Whose wardrobe at this table would you like to borrow?” the host asks. Swift responded, “It would be a group, and it would be a really fun group,” according to the Daily Mail which first reported on the alleged video circulating online. The popstar then picked up posters of Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez, Sheryl Crow, Justin Timberlake and Diddy and waved them in the air to show the audience. “No way! Look at that! That’s a group! Why, why that wonderful group of people?” Ray reacts to the final results.

The video then features Swift praising each of their picks, sharing everything she loves about them. When she reached Didi, she commented, “Didi has always been really good to me.” Ray exclaimed, “He’s a gentleman, isn’t he? He’s a nice gentleman,” to which Swift added, “I would really love to join the group at prom.”

As the clip goes viral, many are noticing that Swift’s innocent praise for Diddy now feels uncomfortably misplaced. “As a millennial, we looked up to these people. We didn’t know what was really going on. It’s like Fearless/Now Taylor Speak. She likes 19-21 here,” one user defended. “So what?” Another shared, “She’s innocent, don’t drag her..she was a teenager.” Another commenter wrote, “This is proof that she only knew Diddy rudimentarily.” ‘If she thought he was a gentleman, she was on to some “Hi, bye s***”.’
