Taika’s son President Nelson confirmed the news of his death but reportedly did not provide any details. His cousin, Charles ‘Chase’ Smith, also posted about his death on his Facebook page. “Our family is heartbroken to share the news of my cousin Tyka Ewen Nelson who passed away this morning,” she reportedly wrote. His sister Sharon Nelson told the press that he ‘has a mind of his own’ and ‘is in a better place.’

Fans are reacting to the news of his death on X (formerly Twitter). One fan wrote, “Just heard that Tyka Nelson, sister of music legend #Prince, has passed away. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time. Please respect their privacy as they grieve.” Another commented, “Respect. Mourning. Thankfulness. Purple heart,” another fan said. A third person said: “Rest in peace Taika. Our hearts go out to the entire Prince family.”

Taika’s farewell concert

In June, Taika was to hold a farewell concert in Dakota, where she was to host the evening and sing some of her songs. Sadly, she reportedly fell ill shortly before the concert which went on without her. His last public performance was in Australia in 2018. He enjoyed an impressive music career, releasing four albums between 1988 and 2011.

Taika’s brother, famous musician Prince, died in 2016 at the age of 57. His cause of death was later determined to be an accidental overdose of fentanyl. Taika is survived by his sons President and Sir, sisters Sharon and Noreen, and brother Omar Baker.
