Grammy's biggest K-pop insult: Only two acts among 2025 nominees; Fans angry, 'rigged and racist'

When the Grammy Awards announced their full line-up of 2025 nominees, K-pop acts received zero nominations. Beyoncé led the way with 11 nominations for her album Cowboy Carter, surpassing Taylor Swift and others. While fans were anticipating harsh insults for BTS, they still expected to see stars like Lisa, Jennie, Stray Kids, Seventeen, and other globally successful artists on the list. To their surprise, not only were these names absent, but K-pop acts did not receive any nominations, with only two being mentioned briefly.

Kpop receives zero nominations at the 2025 Grammys

The Grammys, one of the industry’s biggest awards, have often faced criticism for their bias against Asian artists, especially in the K-pop scene. As the nominations approached, K-pop fans were hopeful, especially since several major groups had submitted their work for consideration. For example, BLACKPINK’s Lisa put forward her track New Woman for Record of the Year and Song of the Year, while also competing for Best New Artist and Best Pop Solo Performance with her song Rockstar.

Stray Kids also had a strong presence, including nominations for AT for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album and Chuck Chuck Boom for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Music Video and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance . , Fans were anxiously waiting to see if these global K-pop stars would finally get the recognition they were hoping for, but they were disappointed.

Additionally, two K-pop groups were indirectly linked to the nominations. Espa teamed up with Coldplay’s Chris Martin on Jacob Collier’s Jessie Vol. 4, which received a nomination for Album of the Year. Stray Kids contributed to the Deadpool & Wolverine soundtrack, which is “Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media”. Meanwhile, on a personal level, BTS’s Jungkook was mentioned in Usher’s Coming Home, a track from Usher’s album, which was nominated for Best R&B.

“Jungkook is the most overlooked artist in the music industry, I swear! Last year, Seven, and this year, SNTY – I’m so mad. Golden made and broke so many records,” one disappointed fan wrote at the Grammys. But expressed anger. “A year after its release, it’s still booming everywhere, and you’re telling me it didn’t get any nominations? F**k you, Grammys.” Another fan questioned, “How do these Grammy voters choose who to nominate? They pick the same artists every year. Do they even listen to the submissions, or just pick who they like?” A third fan simply said, “Well, what did we expect from the racist Grammys.”

So far, BTS remains the only K-pop group to receive straight nominations at the Grammys, with five nominations in the past three years. However, despite his huge success, he has not received any awards yet. K-pop fans have long accused the Grammys of taking advantage of BTS’s star power to boost viewership. The members have since undertaken military service and released solo projects that charted at the top, but none of these efforts resulted in a nomination.
