Ahead of the film’s highly anticipated release on December 19, 2025, Disney revealed new concept art for the third installment in Cameron’s record-breaking franchise. Newly unveiled images on social media give fans their first look at the film’s expanded universe, featuring new Na’vi tribes and the awe-inspiring landscapes of the lush, alien world.
Among the pieces shared was a stunning illustration by Dylan Cole, which makes clear visual connections to the themes of the 2022 blockbuster, Avatar: The Way of Water.
This exclusive image features the Na’vi and the Tulkun (giant, whale-like creatures) gathered around a glowing bioluminescent spot in the ocean, evoking the beauty and tranquility that has become iconic for the franchise’s aquatic world.
Another piece by Cole presents a serene but captivating scene: two Na’vi standing in front of a vibrant oceanic sunset, pointing toward a sky filled with extraordinary extraterrestrial hot air balloons with fleshy wings.
The balloons, an ethereal touch, seem to float effortlessly in the sky, casting an ethereal glow on the rock-strewn horizon.
Adding to the intrigue, artist Steve Messing contributed concept art, showing those same hot air balloons drifting through the rocks of Pandora, their majestic forms surrounded by fluffy clouds.
In another compelling illustration, Messing introduces a new Na’vi tribe, known as the Ash People, who is shown taking a prisoner into their rocky village. This glimpse of Pandora’s darker, more mysterious side suggests an interesting new layer to the film’s story.
Perhaps most exciting for fans is the visual reveal of an entirely new headpiece worn by one of the Na’vi characters, portrayed by Zachary Berger.
The Na’vi are seen riding on the back of a flying creature with sharp, winged wings – reminiscent of the banshees featured in the first ‘Avatar’ film – that is flying high above the ground.
James Cameron on Avatar 3
This high-flying adventure promises to add thrilling new dynamics to the upcoming film. In an interview with Deadline earlier this year, Cameron revealed that Avatar: Fire and Ash will introduce two new cultures to the world of Pandora.
Cameron explained, “You’re going to meet two completely new cultures in the next movie.” He added, “We met Omatikya, we met Metkayina, and you’re going to meet two new cultures in the next movie. It’s cool.” Roam a little more freely in different locations throughout the world of Pandora.”
Cameron also teased the symbolic significance of fire in the upcoming film. “There’s a symbolic purpose to the fire in the movie, and there’s a culture that’s specifically around that concept,” he hinted, adding excitement among fans eager to see what was going to happen.
