Top Gun: Maverick star Glen Powell addressed a rumor claiming Tom Cruise wants him to take over the Mission: Impossible franchise.
Will Glen Powell be the next Ethan Hunt? The actor, who is friends with his Top Gun: Maverick co-star Tom Cruise, has reacted to the recent report that he has been asked by Tom to lead the franchise. In a new report from DiversityIt was said that ESPN commentator Pat McAfee called him to ask if there was any truth to the matter. What did Glen Powell say?
The report states that when Pat called Glenn during The Pat McAfee Show to congratulate him on getting the lead role, he immediately refused, saying, “My mom would never let me do that. This is the worst program in the city, everyone knows that. This is a death trap!” He was referring to the insane stunts and action sequences associated with the project, which Tom Cruise has been doing for years without a body double.
But is there any conflict with a potential new star taking over the reigns from Tom Cruise to play the beloved character Ethan Hunt? The actor hasn’t made any official statement about ending the franchise, even though he mentioned last year that he’d still like to play Ethan Hunt in the ’80s.

Glenn starred alongside Tom in Joseph Kosenski’s 2022 blockbuster aerial action entertainer Top Gun: Maverick, where he played the executioner. Tom was also there at the London screening of Twisters to support Glenn earlier this year. The actor will next be seen in Edgar Wright’s The Running Man.
