Actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut recently announced her much-awaited film emergency To be released on January 17, 2025. This update comes almost a month after the film received the censor certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Emergency, which is written, directed and co-produced by Ranaut, was originally scheduled for release on September 6, but faced several delays before its certification was approved. Kangana Ranaut, who plays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film, shared the release date on Instagram. The caption reads: “17th January 2025 – The epic saga of the country’s most powerful woman and the moment that changed India’s destiny. #Emergency – Released in theaters only on 17.01.2025!”

I am happy that we got the green signal to release our film.”

The CBFC’s screening committee cleared the film with a ‘UA’ certification, on the condition that the filmmakers make three cuts and provide factual sources for some controversial historical statements. Among the suggested edits, the committee recommended that the filmmakers remove or alter specific scenes including the scene that shows Pakistani soldiers attacking Bangladeshi refugees.
