"How is this okay": Bhumi Pednekar draws attention to Delhi's poor AQI

Bhumi Pednekar has expressed her concern over the long-standing issue of poor air quality in Delhi. On Monday, the actress re-shared a post by The Tatva India on her Instagram Stories, highlighting the current situation in the national capital. The original post came with a worrying headline that read, “Breathing in Delhi is now equivalent to smoking 50 cigarettes a day: AQI reaches 1500+, schools closed. “Health emergency is in force across North India, people have been asked to stay at home.” Bhumi’s side note came with a question: “How is this okay?”

Earlier, Bhumi Pednekar had reposted another weather update by journalist Faye D’Souza. It mentioned that the air-quality index (AQI) in Delhi was 1710 which was considered “hazardous”. While uploading the post, Bhumi wrote, “Clean air, it is your right.” Wake up.”

Last year, Bhumi Pednekar, who founded non-profit advocacy platform Climate Warrior, raised the issue of climate change in Melbourne, Australia. Addressing people at an event, he said, “As we speak, we are dealing with the adverse effects of climate change, our generation, everybody, we are all going to face it and this is not something that Affects only certain classes. We are all equal in the wrath of nature. I think climate change is something that needs to be talked about. But no one talked about it at the time, that we were in crisis, that we were in a state of emergency and that climate change was the biggest threat humanity has ever faced,” according to a report in Deccan Herald,
