AR Rahman’s wife Saira Banu has announced separation after almost three decades of marriage. Saira’s lawyer Vandana Shah released an official statement regarding the couple’s decision to separate. Statement on separation of AR Rahman and Saira Banu
The official statement read, “After many years of marriage, Mrs. Saira has taken the difficult decision to separate from her husband Mr. AR Rahman. This decision comes after significant emotional stress in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple have found that stress and difficulties have created a gulf between them that neither party feels able to bridge at this time. Mrs Saira stressed that she had taken this decision due to pain and suffering. Mrs. Saira requests privacy and understanding from the public during this challenging time as she navigates this difficult chapter of her life,” the statement said.
His son Ameen also posted about it on Instagram and asked followers and fans to ‘respect the family’s privacy’.

Theirs was an arranged marriage which was arranged by his mother. Many years ago, during a conversation with Simi Garewal, the music maestro had shared that he did not have time to look for a bride as he was busy with work. “I was 29 and I told my mom. I said, ‘Find me a bride,'” he said.
“Initially, she would get frustrated. I mean not going out. I mean, normally you can’t go out shopping and…” he said.
