Chennai: The Madras High Court on Tuesday dismissed an application filed by the OTT platform Netflix, seeking to reject the copyright violation suit of Tamil superstar Dhanush against actress Nayantara.
The case is related to the alleged unauthorized use of scenes from the Tamil film ‘Nanam Rowdy Paddy’ in the Netflix Doku-Drama ‘Nayantara: Beyond the Fairytail’.
Justice Abdul Quadhos also dismissed another application filed by Los Gatos Production Services India LLP, a unit managing Netflix content investments in India, which canceled the earlier holiday of the court given to Wonderbar films owned by Dhanush. Los Gatos argued that one should not sue in Chennai as the applicant company was located in Mumbai.

The interim relief is related to the use of scenes from ‘Nanam Rowdy Paddy’ in Netflix Dock-Drama.
In the affidavit, Wonderbar Films director Sris Srinivasan argued that neither Nayantara nor Netflix had the right to use any footage, which included scenes from the 2015 film, which included scenes (BTS) scenes from the 2015 film, which Wonderbar was without prior permission from films, which was that the film was produced.
Srinivasan said that Nayantara had signed an artist agreement with Wonderbar Films on August 27, 2014, which transferred all the rights related to his performance, equality, name and voice in relation to the film.
Wunderbar films claimed that a notice was issued to Netflix on 9 November 2024, on discovering the unauthorized use of BTS visuals in the trailer of Docu-Drama.
In response, the producers of Docu-Drama Netflix and TARC STUDIOS LLP said on November 11, 2024, that the visuals were individual in nature and were not shot by individuals commissioned by Wonderbar films.
The dispute came into public a few days before the release of Dock-Drama on November 18, 2024.
On November 16, 2024, Nayantara addressed an open letter to Dhanush through her social media platform, alleging that she repeatedly requested for two years from Wonderbar films for No Effects Certificate (NOC) Did, but one did not get it.
In his letter, Nayantara reported that Dock-Drama included a few second views and songs of ‘Nanam Rowdy Paddy’, as the film had now marked her on the beginning of her romantic relationship with her husband, director Vignesh Shivan.
He accused Dhanush of making a personal complaint against him and Shivan, as he had sent him a legal notice, demanding Crore 10 crore for the loss after the trailer’s release.
Nayantara claimed that only three seconds of BTS footage shot was used on individual equipment, making legal notice unfair.
