The Ziro festival of music from Arunachal Pradesh is on a new journey with the inaugural edition of Ziro on a tour in Hyderabad. The Ziro Festival of Music, held in the picturesque Ziro Valley of Arunachal Pradesh, enters its 12th edition, which is widely considered India’s most environmentally friendly concert. According to co-founder Bobby Hano, the festival is not only about music, but to promote a deep relationship with environment, culture and community. “Over the years, it has become a melting pot of cultures, celebrating diverse styles and encourages cooperation between local, national and international artists,” he says. This year is an important milestone as the festival travels outside Arunachal Pradesh for the first time, a spotlight on Hyderabad. “Hyderabad was chosen for its vibrant cultural diversity and his growing love for music and art,” says co-founder Anoop Kutti. He says, “We wanted to bring a piece of Ziro to a city where people could experience the magic of the valley without a visit to Arunachal Pradesh.”

The journey of the festival has been transformational over the years. While showing a mixture of independent artists and traditional folk artists, it has developed into an internationally recognized cultural celebration from the bootstrapped event, at a ground level. “We celebrate music from every corner of the world, but the festival has also played an important role in bringing the folk traditions of Arunachal Pradesh into the headlines,” Anoop. Over the years, the Ziro Festival has hosted a liberal mixture of artists including Mono, Shay Ben Tzur, Nubya Garcia, Lee Rango, and Tamikrest, including Indian Indie favorite such as Bipul Chhatra, Rabbi Shergill, Parvaz, Fakira, and G Forces Are included.

This festival is famous for its commitment to stability, and these environmentally friendly practices will also be applied in Hyderabad. Single-use plastic are strictly prohibited, and all food and drink containers will be biodegradable or reusable. Drinking water stations will be installed, and the attendees are encouraged to bring their bottles, as the packed water bottles will not be sold at the site. “We are planning to cooperate with local NGOs to promote waste isolation at the venue and ensure responsible waste management. Our aim is not to leave any mark, as we do in the Ziro Valley, ”says Bobby.
