Bollywood star Kangana Ranaut on Friday (February 28, 2025) resolved a four -year -long defamation case, which was filed through arbitration by veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar, the BJP MP apologized for the script writer for “inconvenience”.

Both appeared before a special court on Friday and informed about their decision to withdraw the complaints filed against each other. After appearing in court, the actor also posted a picture on his social media platform with Akhtar, stating that he had resolved the legal case.

The court will pass a formal order later on this day.

The actor said that he made a statement against Akhtar due to misunderstanding, and apologized for the inconvenience caused by him.

Akhtar filed a complaint against Ranaut in 2020, alleging that he had infamous his ‘impeccable reputation’ by pulling his name in the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in an interview with a news channel in July that year.

Ranaut later filed a cross complaint against Akhtar, alleging criminal intimidation and humiliation was insulted.

He claimed that during his meeting with Akhtar at his residence in 2016, he criminally frightened him, demanding that he apologizes to a co-star.

Ranaut’s lawyer Rizwan Siddiqui and Akhtar’s lawyer J Kumar Bhardwaj said that the case was resolved before a Special Magistrate Court in Bandra through an one -hour arbitration.

Ranaut said before the mediator that she had made a statement due to misunderstanding and has decided to withdraw it, Mr. Bhardwaj told PTI,

Ranaut has apologized to Akhtar for inconvenience due to his statement, he said, he said that he has not made such a statement in future.

Mr. Siddiq said, “We had been looking for mediation for a long time. We also exchanged the draft. Finally we have resolved the case. “There was no problem, only words were to be decided, which was done today. We drafted, signed it and both cases were withdrawn today, ”he said.

The case was initially heard by a magistrate court in Andheri.

In 2024, after being elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) from Mandi Lok Sabha constituency in Himachal Pradesh, the matter was transferred to a special magistrate court named for matters related to MPs and MLAs.

In his complaint, Akhtar claimed that after the alleged suicide by actor Sushant Singh Rajput, Ranaut pulled his name during an interview, referring to a ‘cotton’ in Bollywood.

Ranaut posted a picture with Akhtar on Instagram and said that the veteran of the cinema was “kind and kind” during the mediation process.
