Attention all you fashionistas: It’s Met Gala time. Yes, the first Monday of May has arrived.

Want to follow along? Here’s a quick primer on everything you need to know about A-list celebrities from film, fashion, music, sports, politics and social media.

This is a tricky one. Vogue is having a special livestream, starting at 6 p.m. Eastern, on Vogue.com. The feed will also be available across Vogue’s digital platforms, including TikTok and YouTube.

Lots of other media will also be on the site. E! Watch the action, which will start at 6 PM, with livestreams on X, TikTok, Instagram and Peacock.

The Associated Press will be live outside the Mark Hotel, where a number of celebrities will be getting ready to walk down the grand staircase before heading to The Metropolitan Museum of Art. That livestream will begin at 4:45 p.m. Eastern and will be available on YouTube and APNews.com.

Only the event’s rolled-out red carpet is worth seeing — the gala cocktail hour and dinner are notoriously private events.

It’s certainly a party, including cocktails and dinner for about 400 guests, but it’s also a big fundraiser for the Met’s Costume Institute, the only department of the museum that has to pay for itself. Last year, the event raised approximately $22 million. Anna Wintour, a Met trustee for whom part of the institute is renamed, organizes the whole shebang. No phones are allowed, which adds to the attraction.

Each year there is a dress code associated with the museum’s spring exhibition. Some guests, but not all, proceed at Wintour’s request. This year’s theme is “The Garden of Time”, inspired by JG Ballard’s 1962 short story of the same name. This is a squishy fashion question, considering how specific last year’s theme was: all things Karl Lagerfeld. This time, flowers and more flowers are expected. Vintage will also probably be big.

It’s called “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”. But we’re not talking fairy tales or Disney princesses. It contains 250 objects from The Costume Institute’s permanent collection, including some costumes that are rarely seen in public and are so fragile that they have to be kept under glass. The curators wanted to involve all the senses, including smell. He worked with a “scent artist”. And there’s fabric that actually grows. Part of the idea is to pay homage to the natural world. The exhibition opens to the public on Friday and will run till September 2.

To be asked by Wintour to be a co-chair is a big deal. This year’s class includes Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny and Chris Hemsworth. This is Hemsworth’s first Met Gala. Shaw Chew, chief executive officer of TikTok, and Jonathan Anderson, creative director of Loewe, are honorary chairpersons. Companies also sponsor festivals and exhibitions.

Who will be attending is a top secret but Rihanna has revealed she will be there. He will probably be accompanied by his partner A$AP Rocky. Other high-profile partners are likely to attend, as are their significant others hosting: Ben Affleck and Tom Holland. Lily Gladstone has said that she will attend. Who we want to see: Ayo Adebiri. Taylor Swift is not in sight at all, and her boyfriend Travis Kelce definitely won’t be there. Dua Lipa is going.
