Einbinder’s return to the small screen hacks Season 3 marks the beginning of her winning continuation of her previous Emmy-nominated role as Ava Daniels, the plucky disciple of stand-up royalty Deborah Vance. excerpts from an interview

One of my favorite scenes in Season 2 was when Ava learns to swim in the swimming pool. It almost felt like a kind of naming or even figurative passing of the baton. How do you think Ava has grown from her experiences last season? Will this season be a turnaround for him?

Hannah: Definitely. Ava’s experience being on the road, seeing more of the country and understanding how difficult it is for comedians to do stand-up helps her grow. This season, she remains very classically true to her journey; Taking two steps forward and three steps back. So there’s always a little ups and downs with Ava’s development, but she definitely comes to a new place at the other end of this season.

I think this series has really been at the forefront of advocating for the value of writers from the beginning. Do you think the fallout from last year’s strikes informed the writing of this season?

Hannah: Well, all of our episodes were written before the strike, but it’s really hard to tell since we took 10 months off in the middle of shooting. But it’s a credit to our cast and crew and the strength of the writing; It’s evergreen in a way.

In Season 1, Ava spent most of her time in Vegas living out of a hotel on the Strip. Season 2, she spent traveling from state to state. How does it feel to finally be back home in LA for Season 3?

Hannah: I think Ava being in LA gives her a chance to be more grounded, and I definitely think LA is like the third character in the season.

Have you ever found that Ava is influencing your comedy set? And conversely, what percentage of your own writing manages to find its way into Ava?

Hannah: I feel like I infuse Ava with my sense of humor, and so there’s a little bit of me in her. Although I will say that when I came on board she was fully formed; His character was all over the page. But yes, I also like to lend my comedic voice to it in some ways.

Finally, as a budding mycologist, do you have a favorite type of mushroom?

Hannah: ,panting) Hmm…my favorite edible mushroom is probably lion’s mane. And my favorite inedible mushroom would probably be… well, it’s not ‘inedible’. It is not recommended to eat it, as it can be poisonous depending on the dose. But Amanita muscaria, I think.
