The South African singer, best known for her viral hit “Water,” which stormed the Billboard charts, brought a unique touch of classical elegance to her debut at the 2024 Met Gala on Monday night. Stepping into the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the first time, she definitely caught the attention of the fashion police. When asked if she would feel comfortable sitting for dinner inside the museum in her eye-catching hourglass dress, she said it was “fashion over function”.

“Who knows? They’ll figure it out,” the singer said, laughing, “Who cares, guys? I look pretty.”

Tyla honors the ‘Sands of Time’

Met Gala rookie Tyla (you know, the one with the catchy tune Been Thinking) totally rocked this year’s “Garden of Time” theme. She was seen in a stand-out or rather sand out Balmain gown which hugged every curve. With the torch of reality, Roop and her handbag screamed “time marches on.”

The singer also adopted a completely new hairstyle. Gone were the bouncy curls, replaced by a sleek, layered bob that exuded confidence. While serving reporters tea, Tyla said the entire outfit was inspired by “the sands of time”, revealing the stunning hourglass purse she was wearing.

“I’m wearing the sand, basically, the sand of time. We really wanted something different for this year. I walked in Balmain, it’s my first time at the Met,” she told Met Gala 2024 red carpet host La La Anthony. “It feels amazing, I’m so excited to go inside and see all the pictures when I get home….” I just love the outfit and how everything came together.”
