Raman Avatar Tries desperately to recreate the magic of Rishi seen in the 2017 hit comedy thriller Operation Alamelamma. However, Vikas Pampapati directed This is another example of how Kannada cinema has yet to crack the genre of dark comedy, as Rishi’s goofy portrayal pales due to flat writing.

In this comic retelling of the Ramayana in a modern setting, Rishi plays Ram, an eccentric youth with no great ambitions. Things change when Rama decides to work for the welfare of his village by planning to contest the upcoming elections. When his friend (Aniruddha Acharya) disappears with the money collected from the villagers, Ram goes on the run. exile) For Mangaluru.

In the coastal town, he falls in love with Seetha (Pranita Subhash), who is later kidnapped by a dangerous gangster named Alexander (Arun Sagar) and taken to Bengaluru. The first part is worth watching, in which some of the jokes land well and the plot moves from one point to another with small surprises.

Ramana Avtaar (Kannada)

Director: Vikas Pampapati

Mould: Rishi, Pranitha Subhash, Arun Sagar, Anirudh Acharya

Runtime: 136 minutes

Story: Ram aims to do something big in politics. But a friend’s betrayal lands him in trouble, forcing him to leave his town. His problems worsen when a dreaded gangster kidnaps his girlfriend.

Raman Avatar Loses momentum in the second half, falling downwards without any release. Vikas Pampapati’s writing is like a panting runner who runs too early in a marathon, and has little energy left to finish the race.

Rishi, with his behavior and approachable timing, can only do so much without the support of witty lines and hilarious situations. Raman Avatar It would have been beneficial if it had given equal importance to other characters besides its hero.

We wonder what is the interest in Sita that makes Ram fall in love with her. The love story is summarized through a romance number, with the director believing that the slow-motion scenes involving the two are more effective than the drama sold between them.

If Pranitha Subhash’s character lacks an interesting personality, Arun Sagar’s villainous performance, which is supposed to be a parody of Ravana, is hard to understand. He’s too loud, and the dialogue is dated.

Unnecessarily long sequences destroy the potential for smart ideas. For example, the second part begins with a group of men seeking support from youth in Bengaluru to stop the government from banning marijuana. It’s a quirky idea that loses its essence when the joke is stretched beyond its ability to make us laugh.

Even the part when Ram accidentally befriends his real enemy Alexander remains intact, so one should not be blamed for taking it out of the proceedings. To make matters worse, Raman Avatar Its grandiose claims about a potential conflict between the protagonist and the antagonist did not pay off much.

It is clear that the director envisioned the film as a rollercoaster comedy. He makes mistakes in his execution. Even after resolving the central conflict of the plot, the film shows no mood to end, leaving us in a state of frustration. The silence in the packed hall for a film tagged as a comedy-drama is an indication of the audience’s verdict.
