The latest release in the Planet of the Apes series dominated the North American box office with an impressive debut of $56.5 million. This latest title from Disney is doing well domestically, a stark contrast to the extremely mediocre debut of Universal’s The Fall Guy, which grossed $27.7 million. The film, starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, was released the weekend of May 5–7. Film critics have attributed the success of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes to the strong presence of young and veteran fans of the franchise.
