The song was composed for an album by a group of musicians from and around Thrissur, crinkly, celebrating the deity of Kodungallur Devi Temple in the district. It is composed by Sheju Avaran, written by Kannan Mangalath and sung by Anoop Puthiyeduth and Vinish Kalletumkara.

“The production house approached us a few months ago. Later, he made a deal with me, Kannan and our producer Jainish Manappulli. We were requested to keep it a secret. Shaiju noted that Kannan had written Pallavi Song from about four years ago. “We used to sing it when we gathered with our friends. When the pandemic hit and we had nothing to do, I sang these lines and posted it on our Facebook page along with some scenes from the Kodungallur temple. We released it on the occasion of the annual Bharani festival of the temple. The content was appreciated and people kept asking for the full song. Later, when our producer approached me for a song, I gave him this song. By then Kannan had written the remaining songs,” says Shaiju.

The track gained a huge fan following upon its release in 2022 and flooded social media, especially the now-banned TikTok with reels and videos. “I don’t remember who started it. One reel that caught our attention was the one posted on the Kochi Metro page,” says Shaiju, an illustrator.

Kannan, who works with a cable connection provider, has mentioned that he wrote the song to inspire women to be strong like the goddess Kali. “She is a symbol of tremendous strength and power and I want women today to be like her and stand up against atrocities,” says Kannan, adding that he had no problem when the song was used in reels.
