Christopher Nolan has been directing some of the best and most innovative fantasy films garnering Oscar buzz over the past few years, but many fans are still hoping he’ll make a sequel to his 2010 dream masterpiece, Inception.
Featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Elliot Page, the film stars skilled thieves who extract secrets straight from the subconscious.
empire magazine A fun Easter egg dropped in the film was a spinning top, and hinted that something big was coming soon, which some fans interpreted as an announcement of Inception 2.
There was a flood of reactions on social media
“Wait, I know it’s not what I think it is,” one fan excitedly tweeted along with an image of DiCaprio’s character from the film.
Another chimed in, “Imagine if this is actually Inception 2.”
“This is the Nolan Special Magazine Edition with a new print interview,” one questioned.
One said, “Has he been a spinning top since the beginning? This will be tied in with your Christopher Nolan special.
The excitement was tempered by the announcement that Spinning Top was not, in fact, a hint for Inception 2, appearing to be a precursor to an upcoming magazine cover dedicated to Nolan’s work.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Nolan’s space adventure, titled Interstellar and starring Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway. The film is going to make a grand return to theaters, and the magazine feature is expected to celebrate this milestone and look back at Nolan’s impressive filmography.
Will there ever be an Inception 2?
Despite rumors flying around, there has been no official confirmation from Nolan regarding the sequel.
The beginning was always conceived as a standalone story, its conclusion shrouded in mystery, leaving the fate of the spinning top and, by extension, the reality of the characters open to interpretation.
