Sean “Diddy” Combs issued an apology Sunday morning for his violent 2016 assault on his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura after footage was released. The 54-year-old rapper took to social media to express his guilt and described his actions as “inexcusable.” In the harrowing video released by CNN on Friday, the Last Night singer is seen attacking the 37-year-old singer after following him into the Intercontinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles.
Diddy breaks silence on violent 2016 footage
The footage from March 5, 2016 shows Combs grabbing Ventura by the neck and throwing him down. The I’ll Be Missing You singer then kicked Ventura repeatedly while he was still asleep before pulling him by his sweatshirt.
After the release of the now viral video, Diddy faced severe criticism from netizens. On Sunday, the Coming Home hitmaker broke his silence with an apology video on Instagram.
“It’s very difficult to reflect on the worst time of your life, but sometimes you have to do it,” he said, adding, “I was very upset. I’ve hit rock bottom – but I make no excuses. My behavior on that video is inexcusable.
The video shows that as Ventura tried to get up, he approached her again and pushed her. Combs then sat down on a chair and threw an object at him, which he caught from a nearby table.
Combs then said that he “takes full responsibility for my actions in that video, I am disappointed.”
“I was disgusted when I did it and I’m disgusted now,” the Bad Boy for Life rapper continued, adding, “I went and I sought professional help, started going to therapy and rehab, I Had to pray to God for his “mercy and grace.”
As soon as the video was released, an attorney for Ventura said, “The heartbreaking video further confirms Mr. Combs’s disturbing and violent behavior.” According to the New York Post, attorney Douglas H. Wigdor said, “Words cannot express the courage and patience that Ms. Ventura has shown by coming forward to bring this to light.”
