Despite receiving honors at several previous events, including the Golden Globes, she lost the golden statuette to Emma Stone, who was nominated for “Poor Things” by Yorgos Lanthimos.

Gladstone said people in his community thought he had won an Oscar, when in fact he had won a Golden Globe.

“Nobody was upset that it didn’t happen,” he said of the Oscar loss.

“When the Golden Globes happened, a lot of people from the industry far and wide thought it was the Oscars. It’s about the fact that the film got the award and it’s historic, and it’s still a very meaningful moment. So it’s irrelevant whether I went home with that statue in my hand or not,” the actor told Empire magazine.

When she got home after the Academy Awards ceremony, Gladstone said her community, which is part of an association, came together for “Lily Gladstone Day.”

“It was the greatest honour anyone could get. The union got together and decided they wanted to do this. It was a beautiful homecoming, and I could see my old home, the house where I was brought up as a child, right in front of me.

“Two thousand people came from every corner of America,” he said. “It was one of the most emotional events I’ve ever been to in my life. To see the impact, to go home to Montana and share this moment with my community… it was just amazing.”

An adaptation of the book of the same name by American journalist David Grann, “Killers of the Flower Moon” revolves around the birth of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the investigation into a series of murders of the Osage people, a Midwestern Native American tribe of the Great Plains, following the discovery of oil in Oklahoma, US, in the 1920s.

The film also starred Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro and Jesse Plemons.
