A scramblebreb from the trailer of ‘Masum Katil’
Some films never make it on the silver screen, because they were lacking budget or actors, but because their very essence rubbed the foundation of what their essence can accept the society. One such case is Masum KatilA Hindi film that has been blocked by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and is now disqualified by the Delhi High Court to publicly watch.
The producer of the film refused the CBFC’s 2022 to prove the film, but the court upheld the verdict. The two officials found the film guilty of highly violent, communal in tone, and vigilance, given that its depiction was fierce, unnecessarily cruel and devoid of any redeemed value.
According to officials, the story of the film attempts to sell meat and make consumption criminal, while depicting two teenagers who are on the mission of destroying the butcher community members. The narrative reflects cruel violence, including scenes where individuals are forced to eat human emissions and meat – to illustrate cannibals.
The storyline
This plot follows Anirudh, who is a kind boy raised in a deep religious vegetarian family, who has never consumed meat or eggs, which is troubled by animal slaughter.
Anirudh’s beloved grandfather’s death and his subsequent risk for ‘Garuda Purana’ had a profound impact, causing him to believe that the slaughtered animals could be reborn by his loved ones.
By the time he reaches class 12, the use of knowledge of his science is able to develop a chemical secretly that is able to seduce or kill. He secretly uses it to eliminate many butchers, which targets those responsible for animal slaughter.
Anirudh then meets Vedika, a similar ideology classmate whose hatred for the butcher is ahead of itself.
Together, they plan and execute murders by rapidly calculated methods, preparing ways to dispose of bodies with Vedika so that they do not know. The story eventually depicts Vedika as a central force, operated by a mission to eradicate butchers and poultry farm owners across the country.
No certification
In August 2022, the filmmaker applied to CBFC for certification of the subject matter film. In Delhi, the inquiry committee refused to prove the film, it was sent to the revised committee in Mumbai.
The filmmaker requested the film to cut and gave a certificate under the ‘A’ category instead of the ‘U/A’ category, but CBFC refused to completely certify the film.
The CBFC stated that the film’s story line is “so raw” that it tries to sell and consume meat, not only, in the film, the heroes go out on a mission to destroy all those who are part of the meat-child or meat-eating community. It states that violence like vigilance on the butcher community has been removed and the cruelty of those people has been shown in great detail.
It has been said that individuals in the film are forced to eat human emissions, not only emissions but the meat of fellow humans. It said, “The film shown human hesitation and such a film has never been certified”.
Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora said that watching the trailer of the film, which is available on YouTube, was “difficult for this court because it includes Gore violence”.
Rejecting any relief to the filmmaker, Justice Arora commented, “If a film makes the law into his own hands, some praise and celebrated, it can damage people’s confidence in the legal system and suggest that it is acceptable to use violence rather than following the law”.
The judge commented in the September 10 judgment, “When such dangerous ideas are associated with the graphic scenes of murder and cannibal, the subject matter film can seriously harass public peace and encourage others to act violently, putting the safety of the society at risk,” Judge made comments in the struggle of September 10.
