Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, when it comes to his films, is known to make the 2001 period drama “Lagaan”, was scary as people around him, including script writer Javed Akhtar, warned him that it could be a box office failure.
The period drama, which revolves around a villager, gathered a ragtag team to defeat the British in a game of cricket, to avoid paying triple, went to earn an Oscar nomination.
Speaking at the India Today Conclave on Friday, the actor recalled the time made by director Ashutosh Govarkar for the film.
“It was a very scary film to make it. Everyone was scared. Javed sir said that the film would not work even for a day,” he said.
Akhtar, who wrote many hit songs of the film, told Khan that the films did not do well on sports and “Lagaan” has a long cricket sequence.
And the film featured a voice-over by megastar Amitabh Bachchan.
Akhtar said that Bachchan’s voice-over films did not perform well at the box office, a fact that Megastar also pointed to Khan.
“, Mr. Bachchan told me that. He said,” Okay Aamir, I will become a narrator, but whatever films I have given the statement, those films never worked. “
But for everyone’s surprise, not only the 2001 film crossed its box office expectations, but also won the ‘Best Film Audience’ award at the Locigno Film Festival. Later, it was made in the top five films in the nomination of the Academy Awards, where “No Mans Land” won the top award.
Khan said that he and Gowarikar had mocked a joke between him, a line was actually inspired by a dialogue in the film. In that scene, his character was away from doubt in a temple, “We cheered Kono? (Did I make a mistake?)” “” “” “Every time we would exchange that line,” Khan said that the film’s first cut was seven and a half hours. The final cut was more than three hours long.
“The entire journey of Lagaan was very exciting because I always believed in the story … but I remember before saying yes to the film, I was very scared. You all think I take risks and I am a very brave person. I am risky but I am so afraid and I am afraid that I am afraid of my guide.”
Khan said that he is someone who cannot sleep at night before the release of his films.
He said, “I get sleepers and I start harassing the people around me. I do not let anyone sleep. I need a company at that time. Before its release, I am very stressed. In fact, I am as much excited about the film, the more stressed.”
The actor also talked about “Endes Apna Apna”, a comedy that has achieved the status of the cult over the years. Apart from Khan, the film consisted of Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor and Raveena Tandon.
The actor said that Raveena and Karishma did not get well during the shooting of the film, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi.
“I don’t know if I should say this, but something was going on between Raveena and Karishma at that time. So when Raveena comes, Karisma will leave and when Karishma comes, Raveena will leave … The film was fulfilled with great difficulty, but I always believed in that film.”
Aamir said that although both he and Salman were very popular at that time, the film did not do well in theaters.
“And then suddenly I realized over time (she) in home entertainment, everyone is watching it. I believe this number is a home entertainment film. Every generation has seen it, every generation wants to show it to the next generation,” she said.
When asked about his parenting style, the father of the three said that the main factor for him is that his children go after their goals instead of competing in the race to become the first.
He said, “I always want my child to be happy … I think we are blessed with many intelligence and unfortunately we essentially measure intelligence through reading and writing,” he said.
Another hit film of Khan directed by Rajkumar Hirani, “3 Idiots” was also a project that he thought he would not agree.
He said that although he immediately liked the script of the film, he thought that in his 40s he was old to portray an 18 -year -old college student.
But this was Hirani’s vision that eventually took the actor on the film.
“He kept giving me a reason, he said, ‘AAP (Aamir) has won the whole subject. His theme was’ Chase success, chase excellence’.” The actor said that he attracted inspiration from two persons for his character in the film – R Murugados, director of his film “Ghajini”, whom he described as “filterless person” and his nephews, which will never be stable.
Khan will be seen in the next “Sitare Zameen Paar”, which is the sequel to his 2007 direction “Taare Zameen Paar”.
