Abhishek Iyengar’s Kannada play ‘Kon Galige’ to premiere at Ranga Shankara

Con galleys, A Kannada drama based on the last few hours of a convict before he is hanged will premiere at Ranga Shankara in Bengaluru on December 13, 2024. Written and directed by Abhishek Iyengar, the play is presented by WeMove Theater and Sanskriti Center for Performing. Art.

con galleys It stars veteran theater actors Alaknanda Srinivas, Keerthi Bhanu and Vyjayanti Adiga in lead roles. The play revolves around the last few minutes of Hariprasad, who is awaiting his death sentence in an isolated prison. Hariprasad has an unexpected visitor, who engages him in reluctant conversation as he explores his world.

“The idea of ​​the play came to my mind when Alaknanda Srinivas casually asked me how a convict about to be hanged would spend his last hour! That idea amazed me,” says Abhishek. He further added, “I had done a research about convicts and prison for a different project, which did not work out and then this idea rekindled that research, which led to the play.”

In his final hours, Hariprasad confronts his past, realizes the emptiness, and perhaps even finds a glimpse of peace, but how does it matter in his final moments? The play explores this complex aspect. con galleys Abhishek says, it is a story about the power of human connection even in the darkest of places.

Elaborating further about the play, Abhishek says, “The way I have structured this play is different from my previous projects. This is the first drama where it takes place on a timeline that doesn’t exist. Costumes play a major role in the play, he said.

Lavanya Bhatt is the assistant director while Guru has designed the sets for the play. Veteran Manju Narayan will handle the lighting while Vignesh will head the production. Lavanya Bhat and Belichukki Veerendra have headed the costume department.
