Ajay Devgan and Akshay Kumar on unity of South Industry: "They stand together which is lacking in Bombay"

New Delhi:

Two of Bollywood’s most successful actors Ajay Devgan and Akshay Kumar discussed the “lack of unity” in the industry during a conversation on Saturday. He pointed out how South Indian cinema is united, while Bollywood often faces box office clashes which negatively impacts the opening figures of films. Akshay said, “There is not much unity among us. I don’t know what Ajay thinks.” To this Ajay replies, “I keep discussing this.” I truly believe this is not about the inauguration. The inauguration is a different story altogether. I would say because there are theatres-there are so many theaters in the South and people come here to play as well. But otherwise, I really appreciate it when I get to know so many people that they (the South Indian industry) stand together for each other and stand together as an industry, which, honestly So to speak, we have a shortage in the Bombay film industry or whatever you call it.”

During the presence of Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgan Hindustan Times Leadership SummitAkshay Kumar said, “There is a lack of unity, there is a lack of respect and this is a big thing. I am very happy that you have asked this question and a lot of people in my industry will be seeing this and they will understand that both of us are saying this and a lot of people say that we do not have unity.”

Talking about how unity can benefit the Hindi film industry, Ajay Devgan said, “And because of not having unity, we are suffering from many things. I mean, I won’t go into detail about what the film industry is suffering from, but if you all band together, I think we can at least fight for it.

Ajay Devgan also shared information about the camaraderie between senior Bollywood actors. He said, “The four or five of us who started in the 90s, you take Shahrukh (Khan), Salman (Khan) all, we are not in any kind of conflict or conflict. We discuss things, we’re there for each other, and we know we’re all there for each other. You will never see that conflict between us. If a situation happens where Akshay and my films are releasing together, we talk on the phone and say that it cannot be avoided. Let’s encourage each other, and we will promote. We have done this before also.” Akshay Kumar agreed, saying, “Yes, many times.”

Ajay Devgan further said, “We have done it. I mean, I will. I am going to Chandigarh from here and shooting a film named Sardar’s son Part two, and I didn’t have a title. The title was his. I called him when we made part one. I said I wanted that title and he didn’t even blink. He said ok this is yours. So that’s the kind of relationship we all share, but still, except for a few of us, the industry is really divided.

In terms of work, both Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgan were last seen together. Singham again, Directed by Rohit Shetty.
