Venice: Filmmaker Anuparna Roy made history in the 82nd edition of the Venice Film Festival, winning the best director in the original competition for his film ‘Songs of Forgogen Trees’.
Presented by Anurag Kashyap, Anuparna became the only Indian title in Roy’s ‘Song of Foregotten Trees’ Venice. It revolves around two migrant women in Mumbai as they navigate the fleeting moments of loneliness, existence and connection.
The award was announced on Saturday by French filmmaker Julia Duchornaau, president of the Orhizonti Jury, during the closing ceremony of the festival on Saturday. Roy, dressed in a white sari, accepted the honor and thanked the jury, her makers, her artists and filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, “real,” the moment “real”.
Other competition titles that received high appreciation included Fest Opener, La Grazia (Mubi) from Paolo Sorantino and starred long -time colleague Tony Surillo; Catherine Banelo’s withdrawal with an enchanted pick a house of dynamite (Netflix); Dwayne Johnson/Emily Blunt-Star The Smashing Machine (A24) from Beni Safi; Mona Fastwold’s The Testament of N Lee, starring Amanda Safrid; Frankstein (Netflix) of Guillermo del Toro led by the Oscar Isaac and Jacob Alfi; Yorgos Lantimos’ Bagonia (Focus) with Emma Stone and Jessie Plumans; The park has no other option of Chan-wook, as reported by the deadline.
