AR Rahman has spoken against the remix of songs

The trend of remix is not new. It started in Hindi music in the late 90s. But in the last few years it has taken a new form, even new songs 5-6 years old have started being made. It seems that Rahman has taken it bad. “You can’t take a song from one film and use it in another film six years later, saying you’re re-imagining it,” he told The Week. The musician said that in his opinion, a reimagined song can be used on social media, but not commercially. “You can’t reimagine people’s work without their permission. You can post it on Instagram, but you definitely can’t make it mainstream,” the Oscar winner said.

Rahman has seen many of his songs remade and remixed in recent times, the most prominent of which was Humma Humma (from the 1995 film Bombay), which was reworked as The Humma Song by Tanishk Bagchi and Badshah in OK Jaanu (2017). Was prepared from. Ironically, Rahman composed the score for OK Jaanu but was not involved in the remixing of his songs.

But Rahman stressed that AI in music is a huge issue. In the same interview, he called AI evil and said, “The bigger evil is that people are misusing AI and not paying the composer even if they are borrowing his style. We need to bell this cat because this could lead to major ethical issues. “People may lose their jobs.”

Rahman’s most recent work includes the score for the Tamil film Raayan and Imtiaz Ali’s Amar Singh Chamkila, both of which were praised and their songs were chartbusters. His upcoming works include Chhava and Thug Life.
