AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu announced their separation on Tuesday evening after 29 years of marriage. A few hours later, bassist Mohini Dey, who toured with AR Rahman for years, also announced her separation from Mark Hartsch. Many speculated that the two announcements were linked. However, the musician’s legal representative strongly denied any connection. “There is no connection. Saira and Mr Rehman took this decision independently,” lawyer Vandana Shah told Republic TV. ICYDK, AR Rahman and Saira attributed their separation to “significant emotional stress” in their relationship.

AR Rahman’s lawyer also said that financial matters were not discussed between the couple. Vandana Shah said, “Not yet. It has not come to this level. It will be an amicable divorce. They both are very genuine and this decision has not been taken lightly. This is not what you would call a sham marriage.” ,

Mohini Dey, a renowned Kolkata-based bassist and member of Gaan Bangla’s Wind of Change, announced her separation from her musician husband, Mark Hartsch, through a joint Instagram post. In the statement, Mohini expressed her gratitude for the support she has received, while also requesting that her privacy be respected. “The biggest thing we want to wish is love for everyone in the world. We appreciate all the support you’ve given us. Please respect the decision we’ve made by being positive towards us at this time.” Please do so and we will appreciate any decision respecting our privacy,” his post read.

Khatija, Rahima and Ameen’s parents AR Rehman and Saira Banu confirmed their separation through a joint statement issued by their lawyer Vandana Shah on Tuesday evening. Their joint statement detailed the emotional impact of their marriage: “After many years of marriage, Mrs. Saira has taken the difficult decision to separate from her husband Mr. AR Rahman. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple have found that stress and difficulties have created a gulf between them that neither party feels able to bridge at this time. Mrs. Saira requests privacy and understanding from the public during this challenging time,” it said.

AR Rahman also addressed the separation on “Even the throne can tremble under the weight of broken hearts.” Yet, in this scattering, we find meaning, even if the pieces never find their place again. “Our friends, thank you for your kindness and respecting our privacy as we go through this delicate chapter.”
