Artists celebrated the 100th anniversary of Ustad Salil Choudhary

Artists in West Bengal celebrated the centenary of Salil Choudhury at an event organized in honor of the maestro, whose work spans across various genres of Indian music.

The concert was a confluence of tunes composed by the late musician. From Bengali classics to Hindi film songs, the stage and the audience were mesmerized by a range of iconic compositions from the past, including songs and poems that have shaped the cultural landscape of Bengal and beyond.

The event was organized by Bengali music duo Sourandro-Soumyajit and Techno India Group. Artists like Iman Chakraborty, Ujjayini Mukherjee, Somlata Acharya Choudhary, Lagnajita Chakraborty, Dohar, Parambrata Chatterjee, Durnibar Saha and Saikat Biswas performed in this program.

The event was inaugurated by young and aspiring composers, where the concert showcased the beauty of their works, reimagined for a modern audience.

Singer Soumyajeet, one of the organizers of the event, said the event was his humble offering to the maestro. He said, “It is very difficult to limit a legend like Salil Chaudhary to any one form of art. This is our way of understanding the many forms of work he has done throughout his musical journey.

Actor and artist Parambrata Chattopadhyay, who recited one of the most famous poems written by Salil Choudhury, also shared his views about the legend. “He always tried to speak through his actions about the times and problems we are living in. Apart from being a great musician, he was also a great lyricist and poet. His art was conscious of socio-political issues and this was evident through his works. I will recite one of his poems.”

Professor Manoshi Roychowdhury, Co-Chairman, Techno India Group, said, “As we mark his 100th year, this concert is a tribute not only to his immense contribution but also to his contribution in connecting people across time and space. A reminder of the timeless power of his tunes.” ,
