A few months ago, BLACKPINK member Jennie was embroiled in controversy when a video of her vaping indoors surfaced online. Speaking to Harper’s BazaarShe personally addressed the issue. Jenny’s indoor vaping controversy
Jenny said, “What can I do? If Korean people think it’s wrong, then I have to make up for it. It’s like, I understand why you guys are upset. It’s cultural, it’s history. It’s the time. And I can’t go against the times.”
Jenny opens up about her health struggles
She also talked about her mental and physical health struggles after spending years touring and attending events with very little privacy. In the same interview, she said, “I just thought I couldn’t take it anymore.” She also spoke about her life as a trainee for six years, saying “During that whole process, I was so focused on becoming an artist that I didn’t really understand what it meant to be an artist”.
Agency apology over Jenny Weeping incident
On July 8 this year, a video of Jennie vaping inside her home sparked controversy. The clip, which was part of a vlog on Jennie’s YouTube channel, showed her vaping inside her home while she was getting her makeup done. She was also seen blowing smoke towards the staff. The scene was later removed.
On July 9, Oye Entertainment said in an official statement, As quoted by Soompi“Hello. This is Oye Entertainment. We sincerely apologize to everyone who felt uncomfortable with Jennie’s actions in the content released on July 2. Jennie has admitted her mistake of vaping indoors and causing inconvenience to the staff and expresses deep regret.”
It also read, “Jennie has personally apologised to all staff on site who may have been affected by the incident. We apologise to her fans who have been disappointed by the incident. We hope this doesn’t happen again in the future. Thank you.”
Jennie is a member of Blackpink along with Jisoo, Rose, and Lisa. The group made their debut in August 2016.
