Bodyguard reveals Diddy 'sacrificed a bird' before 1999 shooting decision: 'He fell to his knees...'

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ former bodyguard has made a sensational claim about an unusual ritual the music mogul allegedly performed just hours before his acquittal in the 1999 nightclub shooting case. This was the same case in which rising rapper Shine, now known as Moses Barrow, was held accountable and sentenced to prison. Speaking in the Hulu documentary The Honorable Shine, Gene Deal witnessed Diddy ‘sacrificing a bird’ on his way to court for his final trial.

The infamous 1999 nightclub shooting, which involved disgraced music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs and his then-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez, remains a dark chapter in hip-hop history. While Combs and Lopez walked away without damage to their reputations, the spotlight fell on Shine, a 19-year-old rising rap star under Combs’ Bad Boy Records. Despite maintaining his innocence, Shine was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2001 for “assault, reckless endangerment and illegal weapons possession”.

Now Shiney’s journey – from a promising artist to his fall from grace and eventual comeback – will be documented in The Honorable Shine, a new documentary from Disney-ESPN’s Endscape. The show is scheduled to premiere on Hulu on November 18. The film promises to reveal what really happened that fateful night.

Diddy’s ‘bird sacrifice’ before shooting decision

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ former bodyguard, Gene Deal, shared a shocking account of the events leading up to the verdict in the rapper’s 1999 lawsuit. Deal remembered seeing Combs stopping unexpectedly in Central Park on his way to court. There, according to Deal, Combs fell to his knees in front of another man surrounded by smoke. The man holding the Bible reportedly prayed while laying his hands on Combs before instructing him to release a white bird from the cage. Deal described how the bird, once released into the air, falls to the ground, lifeless.

A few hours later, Combs was acquitted of all charges in the nightclub shooting case, while the blame ultimately fell on Shiney, who was sentenced to prison.

In an earlier interview with Channel 5 News, Shayne, now a politician in his hometown, said, “When I was an 18-year-old kid, I just wanted to do nothing but make my mom proud and make Belize proud. And, what we all want to do, is to be recognized for our talent and take over the world, I was defending him, and he turned around and called witnesses to testify against me.

Calling Combs “the guy who ruined my life,” she added, “He pretty much sent me to jail. That’s the context by which you should always describe that relationship. Yes, I forgive. I moved on. But let’s not pretend like I was in Miami for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
