Brad Pitt-Angelina Jolie ‘War of the Roses’ update
This month, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge rejected Angelina Jolie’s efforts to throw out the case, clearing the way for the legal fight to continue. While the case is moving forward, Stoli Group, which bought Jolie’s shares, is also attempting to have the lawsuit dismissed, with a hearing scheduled for March.
Brad Pitt claims Angelina Jolie sold her stake in his French winery, Chateau Miraval, for $54.4 million, but backed out “expressing concerns over the terms of a proposed non-disparagement agreement in connection with the deal,” according to InTouch .
However, Pitt’s legal team alleges that the real reason was a secret deal with a Russian company, Stoli Group. Pitt claims he was unaware of these negotiations.
After that, a trial date could be set for April. However, due to the complexity of the case, it is possible that the dispute will not reach court until 2026.
What is the lawsuit about?
The court battle is over a $500 million estate, half of which Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie owned when they married. But things went haywire in 2016 after Jolie decided to separate. He sold his shares to a Russian company without notifying Pitt, a move that allegedly violated a prior agreement giving Pitt the right of first refusal. Pitt’s legal team claims that Jolie’s actions were motivated by personal animosity and a desire to hurt him financially.
