Actress Chhaya Kadam, widely known for playing the role of Manju Mai in Kiran Rao’s acclaimed series ‘Missing Ladies’, made her debut at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival 2024 in a highly emotional and symbolic way.
Dressed in her late mother’s favorite saree and nose ring, Chhaya Kadam attracted global media attention as she walked the red carpet of the French Riviera with grace and reverence.
Paying an emotional tribute to her mother, Chhaya expressed her feelings on social media, sharing glimpses of her Cannes trip and recalling her unfulfilled dream of travelling with her mother.
With poignant Marathi words she expressed her feelings, “Mom, my dream of taking you on an airplane ride remained unfulfilled… But today, I have the satisfaction that I can wear your saree and nose on the plane to Cannes. Brought the ring with me. Movie festival.”
The actor further added, “Still, Mom! Wish you were here to see all this today. Love you, Mom, and miss you so much.”

This Indo-French presentation is an important milestone, as it is the first Indian presentation to compete in the main category at Cannes in three decades.
The film tells the intriguing story of a nurse named Prabha, played by Kadam, whose life takes an unexpected turn after she receives a gift from her estranged husband, leading her to deep introspection and transformation.
