“Happy Republic Day, India!” Coldplay frontman Chris Martin greeted the crowd at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad as he kicked off his final performance in the country, where he touched many hearts by singing a patriotic song. Vande Mataram,

It looked like a confetti of lights spread across the stadium as fans turned on their flashlights to groove to the band’s tunes at their last concert in India, which was being streamed live on Disney Hotstar .

As the show started at exactly 8 pm, the atmosphere inside the Narendra Modi Stadium, with a capacity of over 1.25 lakh, was filled with excitement.

Martin, dressed in a navy blue T-shirt and jeans, started the performance high powerWhich forced the audience to sing along with him in unison. And then came two more hits– adventure of a lifetime And Heaven,

Taking a break from the back-to-back tracks, Martin addressed the audience in Hindi and thanked them for coming in large numbers from different corners of the country.

“This is every Hindi word I’ve learned in my entire life. So thank you,” Martin said before briefly switching to Gujarati.

Martin also wished Indian fans on the occasion of India’s 76th Republic Day.

“We are very happy to be here, very grateful to be here. Happy Republic Day to everyone in India. We know how fortunate we are to play in your beautiful country, especially on a day when all the planets are aligned and We have the best crowd in the best stadium in the entire world,” he said.

The singer took a break from his playlist to briefly hum a few lines of music maestro AR Rahman’s 1997 patriotic track. Mother, I salute you,

Martin kept the energy high by constantly engaging with the crowd and taking time to read the signs they picked up. He also noted the song requests made by the audience and assured them that their favorite tracks are on the way.

The show marks the Chris Martin-led band’s concluding performance in India as part of their ‘Music of the Spheres World Tour’. They have already performed in three soldout shows in Mumbai and had their fourth concert in Ahmedabad on Saturday. Coldplay had previously performed in the country at the Global Citizen Festival in Mumbai in 2016.
