Deadpool and Wolverine: X-23 star Dafne Keen graduates from Andrew Garfield’s ‘School of Lying’ with flying colours

Deadpool and Wolverine’s big theatrical premiere, which will rewrite all the rules of Marvel science, is officially a week away. It’s safe to say Ryan Reynolds wasn’t the only one who’s “been waiting a long time for this team-up”!

In commemoration of the dropping countdown, Marvel Entertainment released the final trailer for the upcoming superhero blockbuster on Friday, July 19. One of the most eye-popping revelations of the new sneak peek proves that MCU stars don’t just act when the camera is rolling, but they also act according to tightly-covered contract laws, presumably to protect their own futures.

While the new age Spider-Man, Tom Holland, has fallen short several times in delivering on his promises, his fellow web-slinging precursor, Andrew Garfield, made us all believe his slippery lies during the promotion of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Dafne Keen’s Laura cameo in Deadpool and Wolverine confirmed

It’s a well-known fact that the upcoming Ryan Reynolds-Hugh Jackman R-rated partnership will open the door to many surprising cameos that we still have no idea about. However, the new Deadpool and Wolverine trailer finally confirmed one of those predicted eye-openers.

Laura aka X-23 is back! And… The mysterious character, who was revealed to be Logan-like in the 2017 finale of the Wolverine trilogy, will see Dafne Keen return to the role of Laura for the first time since the popular 2017 film.

For the past several months (or longer), The Acolyte star has been asked in every interview about her professional journey if she would reprise her role in the already anticipated record-breaking superhero feature film, set to release on July 26.

Keane has finally broken his silence on his now-confirmed cameo in the Shawn Levy-directed film, admitting he’s enjoyed keeping it a secret until now.

“I had a lot of fun keeping it a secret. I had to do a lot of press conferences for the work I had just completed,” he told Entertainment Weekly.

“I was asked this in every interview and I had to lie, which was really ridiculous.”

Well, we’ve all seen it coming in one way or another, but nothing beats the feeling of being proven right.

As he successfully achieves the end goal he had in mind, we can’t help but remember everything that happened to The Amazing Spider-Man, who also ran a similar round of lies at one point.

“All the inspiration comes from Andrew Garfield,” Keane said, crediting the beloved actor who once refused to step back into the Spider-Man suit for the 2021 film, which unleashed the nightmarish “Multiverse of Madness” on Peter Parker’s (Holland) world.

“No, no, no, I’m not. I’m not. I’m not!” Garfield said in a Wired autocomplete interview when asked if he would play Spider-Man again. Ten days later, when No Way Home finally hit theaters, Andrew Garfield was, in fact, back as the lovable web crawler.

Keene couldn’t let go of her amazing work and in an EW interview published on July 19, she said, “She’s a pro at it.”

Deadpool and Wolverine are undoubtedly one of the most anticipated movies of the year – let’s not forget the year 15 years ago when Reynolds’ Wade Wilson and Jackman’s Logan last faced off in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Given that the upcoming film also marks the official introduction of the mutant class into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we can expect endless clashes between the once-disjointed 20th Century Fox and Disney MCU timelines.

So far, only Keene’s Laura, Todd, Aaron Stanford’s Pyro, and Tyler Mane’s Sabretooth have been officially confirmed for the film. Social media is abuzz with rumors and speculation about the return of several other characters from the previous X-Men franchise.

Dafne Keen first played Laura at the age of 11. She’s now 19. In Logan, she’s unprecedentedly “caught between finding a father and then losing her father.” Though the film’s exact plot details won’t be revealed until July 26, we can certainly expect to see some heartwarming moments when her path crosses with her Wolverine, who made his final bow in the 2017 film. However, as fate would have it, that’s not what happened.
