Mumbai: In the latest development, actor Dhanush and Aishwarya Rajinikanth have been officially granted divorce by the Chennai Family Welfare Court.

The court’s decision came after both parties expressed their inability to live together. Dhanush and Aishwarya appeared in the family court in Chennai on 21 November, where they expressed their desire for separation. The judge overseeing the divorce case adjourned the hearing until November 27, when a final verdict was expected to be handed down.

The two tied the knot in a lavish wedding in Chennai in 2004 and after 18 years of marriage, they released a joint statement revealing their decision to separate.

The statement read, “18 years of togetherness as friends, couple, parents and well-wishers of each other. This journey has been one of growth, understanding, adjustment and adaptation. Today we stand at a place where our paths have diverged. Aishwarya/Dhanush and I have decided to separate as a couple and take time to understand us as individuals for the better. Please respect our decision and give us the privacy we need to deal with this.”

They continue to co-parent their sons, Yatra and Linga. The couple announced their separation on social media in 2022 and later filed for divorce.

Meanwhile, Dhanush has recently filed a petition in the Madras High Court against actress Nayanthara and her husband-director Vignesh Siva.

The case focuses on allegations of copyright infringement involving scenes from the film “Naanum Rowdy Dhaan”, produced by Wunderbar Movies, which were allegedly used in the Netflix documentary “Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale”.

Dhanush had earlier sought damages of Rs 10 crore after three seconds of behind-the-scenes footage of “Naanum Rowdy Dhaan” was shown in the trailer of the Netflix documentary.

Advocates Satish Parasaran and R. Parthasarathy represented Nayanthara and Netflix respectively. Justice Abdul Quddoz accepted Wunderbar Movies’ request to include Los Gatos in the case, noting that a significant part of the dispute took place within the jurisdiction of the Madras High Court.
