Diljit Dosanjh said that his songs like Born to Shine, Goat, Lover, Kinni Kinni and Naina do not have lyrics related to alcohol. Watch the video.
Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh has criticized a news anchor for targeting and challenging him over the use of alcohol-related lyrics in his songs. On Friday, Diljit posted a long video on Instagram in which he spoke to the Lucknow audience. He said that if singers are asked to censor their songs then these rules should also apply to Indian films. Diljit said singers are easy targets but reminded the anchor that films have also won National Awards. (Also read | Badshah supports Diljit Dosanjh amid alcohol song controversy)
Diljit talked about his songs
In the video, Diljit said, “There is an anchor sir, I definitely want to talk about him on TV.” He will challenge me, Diljit of The to show a hit song without alcohol. For your information, Sir, Born to Shine, Got, Lover, Kinni Kinni, Naina are many of my songs which stream more on Spotify than Patiala Peg. That challenge of yours is useless because I already have many songs which are hits, Patiala Peg Se Bahut Hai (There is an anchor on TV about whom I would like to talk. She challenged me to make a hit song without any Given) Mention of alcohol. For your information, there are many songs like Sir, Born to Shine, Got, Lover, Kinni Kinni and Naina which are streamed more. So, your challenge doesn’t matter because I have many songs which are even bigger hits than Patiala Peg.”
Diljit wants equal censorship for all
He also said, “I am not defending my songs or myself. All I want is that if you want to impose censorship, then censorship will have to be imposed on villages, censorship will have to be imposed on Indian cinema also. Correct? In Indian cinema, the bigger the gun, the bigger the hero. Which big actor has not done a song or scene involving alcohol? Is anybody there? Are you remembering? I can’t remember anyone. So if you want to impose censorship then please impose it on everyone. The actor has not made any song on alcohol or similar scene? I can’t remember, so if you want to impose censorship, do it on everyone).
Diljit says actors are soft targets
“Artists seem like soft targets to you. That’s why you tease the singer. But sir, for your information, the film I have made has also received the National Award. So hamara kaam sasta kaam nahi hai (Artists are easy targets for you. That’s why you create trouble for singers. The films I have done have been honored with National Awards. So my work is not cheap). It is very easy for us to run a disclaimer during concerts that alcohol is injurious to health and keep singing the songs. It’s the same, isn’t it? Then it seems like we are targeting someone. So, if you have spread this wrong news, it is called fake news…I challenge you to spread the right news.
What happened
The controversy started before their Hyderabad show when the state government sent them a notice directing them to refrain from songs related to alcohol, drugs and violence. Since his Ahmedabad concert, Diljit has been alleging double standards in targeting musicians.
