Bengaluru: Kannada star Dr Shivarajkumar, son of Kannada film legend Dr Rajkumar, has been discharged from hospital in Miami, US after making a full recovery from cancer, family sources confirmed on Saturday.
Shivarajkumar’s daughter Nivedita has shared a picture in which the actor and family are seen relaxed. Sources further revealed that Shivarajkumar will be in the US for follow-up and rest for a month and he will be back for shooting by the first or second week of February.
Shivarajkumar is expected to soon start shooting for Telugu superstar Ramcharan-starrer Pan India film.
Earlier, Shivarajkumar had shared a video from the US on the first day of 2025, detailing his journey in overcoming cancer and assuring fans of his comeback.
In the video, he wished everyone a Happy New Year and said, “I am hesitant in speaking because I can get emotional at this time.” Leaving Karnataka was a very emotional experience for me. Under these circumstances, fear is inevitable, but the support of my fans has mitigated it significantly.
He further said, “The way the doctors took care of me gave me a lot of courage. During the shooting of the film ’45’, I underwent chemotherapy and the climax fight scene was also shot. As the date of going to America for treatment approached, I became worried. However, my wife Geeta and daughter Nivedita stood by me the whole time.
“Doctor Manohar, who treated me, took care of me like a child. My bladder has been replaced, but there is no need to panic. I am doing well and will come back with double the energy. I thank all my fans for their unwavering support,” assured Shivarajkumar.
His wife Geeta Shivarajkumar, who appeared in the video with him, said that all the medical reports have come back negative, and it has been officially declared that Shivarajkumar is cancer-free. She said, “He recovered because of the prayers of his fans and I will never forget that.”
The actor underwent surgery at a hospital in Miami, USA, where his cancerous bladder was removed. According to surgeon Dr. Murugesh Manoharan, an artificial bladder was created using Shivarajkumar’s intestine.
In November, Shivarajkumar spoke publicly about his illness, acknowledging that he was human like everyone else. Although he did not reveal at the time that it was cancer, he said, “At the end of the day, I’m a human being. I have a health problem and am currently undergoing treatment for it. I have completed some treatment sessions, and have a few more pending. After that, I will get the surgery done either in India or America.
