Charles Shire passes away
According to Deadline, the cause of death has not been disclosed.
Shire’s death was confirmed by his family in an emotional statement shared with Deadline.
The Meyers-Shire family expressed their grief, writing, “It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of our beloved father, Charles Shire. His loss has left an unfillable hole in our lives, but his The legacy lives on through their children.” “And given the amazing five decades of work he left behind, we honor his extraordinary life and know there will never be another like him.”

Charles Shire’s career spanned more than five decades, during which he became prominent in Hollywood due to his sharp wit and ability to direct heart-touching comedies.
His Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay came in 1981 for the comedy ‘Private Benjamin’ starring Goldie Hawn.
The screenplay, co-written with Nancy Meyers and Harvey Miller, was a major success and marked the beginning of a great partnership between Shire and Meyers, both professionally and personally.
The pair continued their collaboration throughout the 1980s and 1990s and made some of Hollywood’s most beloved films.
These include ‘Irreconcilable Differences’ (1984), ‘Baby Boom’ (1987) and the hugely popular ‘Father of the Bride’ franchise.
The 1991 remake of ‘Father of the Bride’ starring Steve Martin and Diane Keaton was a big hit, followed by the equally successful sequel ‘Father of the Bride II’ in 1995.
Shire and Meyers, who married in 1990, were one of the most successful creative teams in the business.
Their partnership continued until their divorce in 1999, after which Shire pursued a solo career, directing films such as ‘The Affair of the Necklace’ (2001) and the 2004 remake of ‘Alfie’ starring Jude Law.
His most recent projects include writing and directing the 2022 Netflix holiday film ‘The Noel Diary’ and the 2023 Christmas film ‘Best Christmas Ever!’ Including serving as co-writer and producer on!
According to Deadline, Shire has four children, including filmmaker Hayley Meyers-Shire.
