Filmmaker Ashutosh Gowarikar appointed IFFI 2024 International Jury Chairman

Mumbai: Ashutosh Gowarikar has been appointed chairman of the international jury for this year’s International Film Festival of India (IFFI). The filmmaker said he felt honored to be a part of it.

Ashutosh said: “Cinema is constantly evolving with the times, and there is no better place to see this evolution than a film festival. The International Film Festival of India stands as a symbol of this change, and I look forward to being part of it.” “I feel honored to be one.” it.”

Festival director Shekhar Kapur, who is also IFFI president, lauded Gowariker’s appointment, saying: “The president must have a deep understanding of cinema, and also be able to see diverse perspectives.” “Ashutosh’s films have successfully showcased wide and diverse forms of storytelling, and we are grateful that he has accepted to be the Chair of the International Jury at IFFI this year.”

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in collaboration with NFDC and ESG, will host the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa from 20 to 28 November.

Gowarikar has made his mark on both national and international platforms. His iconic film “Lagaan” was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2002 and earned the Screen International Award for Best Non-European Film at the European Film Awards.

The film also won several audience awards at prestigious global festivals including Locarno, Leeds, Natfilm, Portland and Bergen. His historical epic “Jodha Akbar” won the Audience Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the Sao Paulo International Film Festival and the Best Film Award at the Golden Minbar International Film Festival in Kazan, Russia.

This time at IFFI, 15 international and national titles including ‘The Goat Life’, ‘Article 370’ will compete for the Golden Peacock. The line-up includes 12 international titles and 3 Indian titles, each selected for its unique perspective, voice and artistry.

This year’s Golden Peacock jury is led by Gowariker, and also includes Singaporean director Anthony Chen, British-American producer Elizabeth Carlson, Spanish producer Fran Borgia and renowned Australian film editor Jill Bilcock.
