From pencil to picture: Rathan Gangadhar’s ‘Sis Kaddi’ is attracted to life and friendship

Kannada film, Looks at KadiThe beginning of the direction of Rathan Gangadhar. It is an anthology that discovers stories about children through a pencil metaphor. The film has already made a mark on the festival circuit.

“I read the book in 2016, and kept something about that paragraph. It touched me deeply, and I started manufacturing stories around those words and concepts.” Soon a spark started in a collaborative attempt.

“My friend and I came together to shape the story and develop the screenplay,” Rathan says, the entire team behind the film includes close friends. “They are my sounding board, my colleague, and now, my artists and crews. Rathan shared Looks at Kadi Rural is a rich tapestry of dialects from all over Karnataka including Tumkuru, Bengaluru, Hivekak and North Karnataka. “I believe Tumkuru dialect is not actually seen in cinema,” he says. “Since my father is originally from the tumru, I have a special hobby for it.”

Rathan started his journey in the film industry as an assistant writer in 2012. “Unfortunately, the films I worked on never saw The Light of Day, but I learned a lot through this process,” they indicate. He later made advertising infections to improve his film production skills, with several high-profile campaigns, which featured a late Pune Rajkumar.

Despite its background in the advertisement, the charioteer admits that the marketing of a film presents a new set of challenges. “Cinema is a completely different ball game,” he says.
