Mumbai: Director Anurag Kashyap recently shared that he had initially approached Manju Warrier to play the role of Kusum Devi Yadav, a raw agent in Netflix’s hit web series Sacred Games. The filmmaker also revealed that he suggested Nayantara’s name for the role, but due to various reasons, things did not become physical.

The role, which eventually moved into Amrut Subhash in Sacred Games Season 2, was originally to introduce a famous face from the South Indian film industry. Speaking during a round table interview, Kashyap revealed,

“We were trying to get Manju Warrier for the role of Amarut Subhash … We were auditioning for various language actors. We gave them three options (Netflix): Manju Warrior, Nayantara, and another person. ,

However, Kashyap reported that at that time, Netflix did not have an Indian office, and casting decisions were taken by the team in the United States. He said that in those days OTT platforms were not actively looking for actors of South Indian industry.

“At that time, the OTT platform was not actually watching South films. They were not considering the south market. They wanted actors from areas where their customer base was already strong. His choice was conducted by algorithms and the audience’s demographics, ”he said.

Kashyap, who has often praised Malayalam cinema, also talked about his coordination with Manju Warrier. She revealed that she had approached her to a response to her upcoming film footage, as she was planning her Hindi release.

“Manju and I went back… We first met their mutual friends Geetu Mohandas and Rajiv Ravi (Mothon’s director and a famous cinematographer) in 2011-2013. Interestingly, Manju and I also share the same birthday, ”Kashyap shared.

Directed by Debue Siju Sreedharan, the footage is a psychological thriller with Manju Warrier in an important role. The film revolves around Visak and Gayatri, which is known for its Youtube Vlogs on a pair of mysterious subjects. During the Kovid -19 lockdown, they are surrounded by a strange story, which includes her maid’s muted employer, who lives in the same apartment complex.

The film’s director Sreedharan has an impressive track record as an editor, which is working on acclaimed films by Rashtriya Award winning films and Kumblengi Nights and Annekshypin Canderett.
