Honey Singh asked why Gulzar is ‘talking about woman’s tongue’ in the song ‘Bidi’. He also asked why people call him wrong.
Honey Singh has called veteran lyricist Gulzar’s song Beedi from the 2006 film Omkara as ‘anti-women’. In an interview with The Times of IndiaThe singer-rapper reacted to a question about him being often called “objectionable and misogynistic”. Honey Singh raised questions on the lyrics of Beedi
Talking about his songs’ lyrics being questioned, he said, “I don’t do that s*** but I feel I should respond to it. Gulzar sahab is writing (Gulzar sahab wrote), ‘Bidi jalailey jigar se piya, jigar mein badi aag hai (Bidi song lyrics)’, jigar kahan hota hai aurat ka (where is the chest)? It’s misogynistic for me ‘Zubaan pe laga namak ishq ka (Bidi song lyrics)’, why is he talking about this. A woman’s tongue… why am I the only one wrong? Main pehle bolta nahi tha, aaj bol raha hu ye baatein. Am I the only one wrong? I didn’t say it before, I’m saying it now. I never responded, so people said she’s an easy target, let’s talk about her.”

The singer also shared if he thinks his songs objectify women. “I am not objectifying women, aise thodi na hota hai (It is not like that). Pehle kaise gaane hote tha, wo gaano ke tarah liye. Main choli ke peeche kya hai jaisa controversial songs ki toh hi nahi karta… par Honey Singh ko hi kyun gal di jaati hai humare unko aap legend bolte ho?…adhunikta bhi ho rahi hai par backward bhi soch rahe hain (What songs were there earlier but they were considered songs. I don’t talk about controversial songs like choli ke peeche kya hai… but why is Honey Singh abused and called a legend? We are being modern but thinking backwards),” he said.

Bidi was sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and Sukhwinder Singh. Bipasha Basu worked in this song. The music was by Vishal Bhardwaj. Directed by Vishal, the film featured Ajay Devgan, Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Konkana Sen Sharma, Vivek Oberoi and Bipasha in lead roles.
