Broadway community ‘devastated’ by Gavin Creel’s death at age 48
The news of Creel’s death devastated his fans and fellow Broadway stars. She was known for her performances in productions such as Thoroughly Modern Millie, Hair, She Loves Me and Hello, Dolly! During a stage career spanning 20 years. Josh Gad, who voices Olaf in the Frozen franchise, mourned Creel’s death in an emotional social media post.
“Sometimes, I don’t have the right words to describe my sadness. Today is one of those days. We have lost someone who was very young, very early in his journey and very influential to our creative community. My heart breaks for his family and his close friends. This is not fair at all. We will never forget you,” he wrote on Instagram.
Grammy-winner Andrew Rannells expressed similar sentiments, writing on Instagram, “When I met Gavin Creel in 1998 I fell in love with him. I was certainly not alone in my immediate affection for her. Everyone fell in love with Gavin. “We used to call each other “soulmate” or “soli” for short. It was a joke that became a nickname, which in some ways became a truth that made us both smile when we said it. My heart feels incredibly empty today. I know I’m not alone in this feeling because again, everyone is in love with Gavin.”
Ben Platt, son of American filmmaker Marc Platt, wrote on his Instagram Stories, “There are no words to describe this loss. Gavin was my first role model, idol and hero.” “When I saw my first Broadway show he showed me backstage. I couldn’t believe that someone so supernaturally talented could be everyone’s favorite person in the building. I wanted to sing like him and be like him.”
