Western instruments have long been part of the scenario of Karnataka music. Violin is credited as an earliest to adapt to Karnataka concerts by the younger brother of the famous musician Muthuswamy Deekshati in the early 19th century. He recognized the ability of the violin as an ideal compatible for cornatic music, which is due to the taunting ability to copy vocal nuances.
Over time, musicians have originally integrated into the Western styles in Carnatic Milliyu, maintaining the roots of music. The vs. Narasimhan’s Madras String Quartet was re -added to Karnataka classics for western string devices, merging to East and West. Qadri Gopalnath, U. Shrinivas, R. Prasanna, and Anil Srinivasan introduced Sexophone, Mandoline, Guitar and Piano in Carnatic fold respectively. Now, electronic keyboard is also being adapted into the classical world.
